SolarWorld: the record bid to acquire General Motors Opel?

General Motors is the largest producer of vehicles in the world but in recent months of 2008 is experiencing a severe economic crisis result of contraction in demand that has forced the company to make drastic cuts in the budget.

According to well informed, SolarWorld, the German group specializes in delivering vehicles “green” would be interested in acquiring the Opel, one of the many brands controlled by General Motors.

The General Motors for its part does not seem willing to surrender but before a major bid by the company in the U.S. House could take a step back reviewing the possible sale.

SolarWorld would, in fact, put a plate on a figure of 1 billion euros while buying the brand and all its factories with the aim of transforming society in the main producing auto “green” throughout the world. We just have to wait for possible developments. We keep informed.

Opel: Despite the crisis, no cutting of staff

The crisis in the car market does not seem to have spared even General Motors, the largest producer of cars, at least until 2007.

In particular, the financial problems mainly involve the Opel brand controlled by General Motors, which in these first months of 2008 has reported losses so severe that someone already envisaged a drastic cut of the workforce to deal with the crisis.

And instead, with an official, an Opel spokesman said that the company is not willing to give life to cut staff in its plants in Germany since the company intends to respect the employment contracts previously awarded which provide employment in factories German until 2010.

Good news for all those workers (25,700) that were likely to remain jobless.

Resounding merger between General Motors and Chrysler?

As repeatedly said on these pages, the American market is experiencing a deep crisis that has brought serious difficulties in the three major automobile brands, which are trying to limit losses awaiting better times.

So bounce from news that a few years ago seemed impossible to happen, that is, two of the three great American homes would be seeking an agreement to merge together and deal with the crisis.

The companies concerned are General Motors and Chrysler. According to the New York Times, already there were numerous discussions between the two companies.

If the two companies could reach an agreement alone would control 35% of the U.S. market, significantly higher percentages in some sectors such as cars or that of the Suv. We just have to wait for any developments.
