Other April 30th, 2008

America is a nation where SUVs have always made by master as the Americans love cars and mighty large cylinder capacity. In recent years, however, things seem to be much changed with the cylinder capacity of small cars that have recovered ground.

To give the idea of change can cite some numbers: in 2003 were sold 3 million of SUV while in 2008 estimates stand at 1.5 million, almost half. In contrast cars small engine capacity have reported a good increase in 2007, winning a good slice of the market amounted to 18%.

All this is explained by the surge in oil prices that did not spare even the American market forcing the Americans to reduce their ego and self tack towards small cylinder capacity that until a few years were not even taken into account. This also explains the great success achieved in recent months by Smart who made his debut in the best time.

After not encouraging early 2008, the Centro Studi Fleet & Mobility has carried out a search to see if the market for registrations will mark a major recovery in these remaining months of 2008.

The figure that emerged is far from encouraging because, according to the results obtained, registrations in 2008 will stop at 2,167,000 a decrease compared to 2007 equal to 13%.

According to Pierluigi Del Viscovo, director of Centro Studi Fleet & Mobility, the market for cars will live in 2008 and 2009 a very critical moment, perhaps the most critical since 1993 when our market did mark an alarming decline of 29%.

Among the factors contributing to this decline need to include the lack of trust that people have towards the future, a situation which obliges to a more conservative and prudent even when buying new cars.
